Bishop Jerry L. Maynard Sr.'s Profile
- Bishop Maynard completed graduate and postgraduate studies in Psychology and Social Sciences at Indiana University and the Doctorates Division of Cross Roads Bible College. Bishop Maynard, a native of Indiana, served as Director of the Muncie Indiana Human Rights Commission from 1967-1970, a member of the Indiana and United States Civil Rights Commission from 1970-1981, and the President’s Domestic Policy Committee from 1977-1983. He is the recipient of the highest civilian award of the state of Indiana, “Sagamore of the Wabash.”
- In 1997, as Cathedral Of Praise (formerly Pentecostal Tabernacle) began planning for the construction of the new 1800 seat Sanctuary and Worship Center. Bishop Maynard chose Church Builders United, a partnership of minority-owned contractors. In addition, minority and women-owned businesses worked as sub-contractors on the project. Bishop Maynard further insisted that the labor force be made up of a significant number of minorities. Thus, approximately eighty-percent of the laborers working on the construction of the facility were African-American and Latino. Other churches building new facilities are now patterning this model. For his efforts, and his many contributions for the establishment of entrepreneurial enterprises, Bishop Maynard received the “R. H. Boyd Business Advocate of the Year 1999” award.
